In July 2022, the Scottish Open will be renamed the Genesis Scottish Open. The famous tournament is one of the last chances for golfers to qualify for The Open Championship.
The tournament was last held in 2021 at the Renaissance Golf Club, which is located 40 minutes east of Edinburgh, along the famous East Lothian golf coast, between Muirfield and North Berwick Golf Clubs.
The Genesis Scottish Open 2022, a Rolex Series European Tour tournament, will take place in July and will feature the best of the best. Watch Min Woo Lee (-18) defend his Scottish Open title in 2021, just ahead of the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews.
The tournament, which is administered by VisitScotland and benefits from the Scottish Government’s continuous sponsorship, will be based on both the DP World Tour Rankings and the FedExCup, with the field split amongst members of both tours.
Since 1987, it has served as the final opportunity to qualify for The Open, alongside the John Deere Classic. Since its inception in 2014, it has been a part of the Open Qualifying Series.
The top three players (four in 2016) who have not yet qualified for the Open have been given a spot. Before 2014, there was usually an exemption category that allowed the leading player or players to compete in the Open if they weren’t already qualified.
Genesis Scottish Open Tickets

General admission Grounds tickets are available on a daily and seasonal basis (access to all 5 days of the tournament), as well as Green on 18 tickets for those looking for a premium hospitality experience.
On Friday and Saturday, additional access to the grandstand overlooking the 18th hole can be purchased at checkout for £15 and £20, respectively.
Tickets may be available on the day of the event, but they will be more expensive than those purchased in advance and are subject to availability, so booking ahead is recommended to ensure access.
When accompanied by a ticketed adult, children aged 12 and under are admitted free, while children aged 13 to 17 are eligible for subsidized tickets. To gain entrance to the hospitality areas, children will need to purchase a ticket.
The Genesis Scottish Open will be held the week before the 150th Open Championship (July 11-17), a date that has been confirmed through 2025. The field will be made up of players from the European Tour and the PGA TOUR.
The tournament will also benefit from the Scottish Government’s ongoing support, which will be administered by Visit Scotland, and will last until 2025.
